One of the wonders of the Tour de france is the fact that anyone can cycle on the same routes as the 'géants de la route'. Tackling the annual Étape du Tour - one of the key mountain stages from that year's parcours one week before the pro's is a way of getting even closer still that experience.
The 2015 Étape was based on Stage 19 of the Tour; a short but brutal blast from Saint-Jean-De-Maurienne to La Toussuire, taking in the Col du Chaussy and the Cols du Glandon, Croix de Fer and Mollard before the final climb to La Toussuire itself, where Vincenzo Nibali rescued what was otherwise a Tour to forget for the defending champion.
